BATGIRLS: The Manga

There should be two exclamation points after Batgirls in the title just to let ya know...

BATGIRLS!! THE MANGA...check it out peeps! I just took over this account and will be submitting strips. Fortunately for me, other people are writing. lol, cuz if it were up to me, then yeah, nothing would get posted.


The lovely ladies above are the three Batgirls from the DC universe.

Lovely lady with glasses is Barbara Gordan, the first batgirl (post-crisis for ye dc geeks)...she's the red head whose made it in the 60's show and cartoons. So you all should be familiar with her image at least. She is now known as Oracle in the comics. She be the leader/mentor in this manga.

Dark haired girl is Cassandra Cain, the second batgirl (or the 3rd for ye DC geeks) who actually got her own comic book. Cass was raised to be assassin but ran away from home and met Barbara during a time when Gotham City was locked down and considered a danger zone. After saving Commissioner Gordon's life from her dad, Cass was given the Batgirl mantle. Crazy bad stuff happened that we're going to ignore, but several years later she gave up the role of Batgirl to her best friend Stephanie Brown. She's due to come back to comics in an event called Gates of Gotham. Here's hoping it's decent.

Stephanie Brown is the chipper blonde in the front. A spirited girl born on the wrong side of the tracks, she became Spoiler to ruin the plans of her crime villain father (the Cluemaster)'s. Later she became Robin for a short time, bad stuff happened that we're not going to talk about, and she disappeared for a while. Eventually she came back as Spoiler again and briefly reunited with Cass. Only for Cass to leave the batgirl mantle to her and leave Gotham City. She is the current Batgirl and having little adventures in her own comic book with the aid of Oracle and Proxy (long story).


As for this manga....tis an AU where the three girls work together to fight crime and the whole batfamily gets along for the MOST part. This of course will abound in hijinks, the high school kind and not. Keep an eye out for us!


That said, YES. I'm on a roll! Yay! Second picture to finish this past week. I had finished it in one day, but was dissatisfied with it, so I went back, changed and then cleaned it up a bit. Then I added a logo...it should have more words to it, but for some reason photoshop was being a BITCH and pixelating all my text. I'm going to have to make a logo on manga studio then color it in photoshop.

So this year is about challenging myself to be a better person. One aspect that needs improvment? MY SPEED WITH DRAWING.

And of course my drawing in general. But I realize that speed needs to be addressed. In the professional world, the faster artists are the ones who get paid more (cuz they get more jobs, dur...) Obviously, there will be exceptions to that...but as for me...the more time I spend on something the more likely I am to lose interest in it and never follow through or finish it. That needs to stop. So for the moment, I'm working straight off of Open Canvas, hence the blue lineart. Blue lineart is just easy on the eyes and it is what I'm used to for sketching.

This picture took me two days. (and mostly because I was dragged into doing yard/gardening those two days...ow). I almost gave up on it the first day. But no, I FORCED myself to keep going. I tweaked this detail here, that detail there, and soon enough my creative energy came back and boom! I finished it! Was going to post it on tumblr, but I have a policy of not submitting anything when I JUST finished it and am dead tired.

So the next day, all refreshed, I pull it out again and looked it over. It was good, but I knew in my hearts of hearts, it could be SPECTACULAR.

Cass was looking too dull in comparison to the others, so after looking thru some martial art poses, I ended up with this. lol, I apologize martial artist enthusiasts, I have no idea what this is! It just fit with my picture. ^^:; artistic license you know. Cleaned it up and voila! I would color it if I was positive I could finish it soon, but I won't. I'm going to concentrate on drawing for the meantime. Hope you all enjoy!

These characters sadly belong to DC who doesn't know how to treat its female characters right. *sighs* I wish they were mine!
