Cartoon Network targets Boys (cuz Girls don't watch cartoons apparently...)

...This Variety article discusses Cartoon Network's new game plan: target young male viewers:

"Turner Animation prexy Stu Snyder and Rob Sorcher, Cartoon's recently hired chief content officer, have set their sights on male teens and tweens in their sweeping overhaul of the cabler.

They're hoping to stanch the flow of young viewers leaving the network for Disney and Nick, but they're also trying to rebuild the net as "the home for boys," in Snyder's words (though he quickly adds that he hopes the female aud sticks around for shows like Cartoon's new comedy "Chowder")."


Um, what? Have these guys ever been on Deviantart, fanfiction.net or hell, even Youtube.com? Check out all those AMVs!!

I meet more female fans of Avatar and Danny Phantom than I meet male fans. O_o; Am I just hallucinating the hoards of cartoon/anime fangirls on the internet and at the anime conventions?

Aren't they a crowd that spends money too?

Yeesh! Make me spend my money! If it means I get awesome cartoons right on! Besides...It'll help the economy too.

Still the commentary to the first link brings up a few good points.

One: girls will watch boy shows, but no boys will want to watch girl shows.

Solution: OH SHUDDUP, my little brother, a fan of metal music, LOVED Fruits Basket. Also, Society stop being so afraid of your boys turning gay! I didn't choose to be straight, and yet I am! If its meant to be, it will be. Letting them watch "girly" shows isn't going to make any more or less gay. OY!

Two: Disney and Nick seem to be competing for a monopoly on the girl market what with shows like Hannah Montanna, Raven, High School Musical, Jonas Brothers, Kim Possible, ect...Cartoon Network's just going to NOT compete with them and specialize in boy's entertainment.

Solution: I kinda get it from a business stance. They want to narrow down their resources and focus on just one group of possible clients, but in that case...PLEASE CHANGE YOUR NAME. Cartoon Network should be a haven to ALL genders, not stand for a channel that will only target boys. Are you trying to support the notion that cartoons aren't for girls??

Hm, and really, what the hell is Chowder about? Ya think girls don't want intricate, well thought out, and with good flowing action animation series??

Geeze, just make good cartoons, don't worry about who they'll target. 9_9
