Aw...I so love Real Mayar and Vincent Law. They're from the new sci-fi anime in Japan called "Ergo Proxy." It's by the creators of Witch Hunter Robin and Samurai Champloo. I totally recommend you watch the opening theme song. It's LOVE. (and in english surprisingly)


I drew this picture a couple of days ago on open canvas and sat down to color it pretty soon after on photoshop. I've been watching EP fansubbed episodes on youtube for two weeks now. Misora (best Witch Hunter Robin fanfic writer) wrote about the series in her livejournal and linked us to the LJ EP community and that's where I learned more about it. It's a rather inspiring show. Very cool.

It's a bit hard to understand at first. I spent the majority of the first episode going "huh?" Some scenes are so dark I can barely tell what's going on. (I'm hoping this is just something from youtube and that when the dvd comes out, we'll actually be able to see it more clearly. X_x;; ) But I read through some blogs and the EP community about the episodes and was surprised to have missed lots of clues about the rest of the series. So I watched it again and was impressed by how thought out the first episode was. wa ha, so many little clues thrown out at ya throughout each episode. I dig it. The many mythological/philosophical references throughout the series also don't hurt.

Waah, I love these two! Real is hella pretty and somewhat of a badass rebel cop girl who happens to be the mayor's granddaughter. Vincent is this mousy clumsy nice immigrant guy who you don't think much of when you first see him until the second episode. Waha ha, he's a cutie. I know he doesn't look mousy at all here, but that's cuz this is his second look, a roughed up one he acquires after getting chased by monsters, cops, androids, robots, you name it. The poor dude can't catch a break. The girl he's in love with only chases after him cuz of the connection he has to a nightmarish creature and she'd sooner kill him than kiss him. (Episode 12 would probably make me eat my words...) Wah ha ha, I love this series.

So the title refers to them being close to the thing they're pursuing, but never being able to reach it for whatever reason. Real wants to know about Proxy (godlike monster creature) and Vincent wants to be loved (especially by Real XD).

I had some trouble coloring Vincent's face. The shadows made his face look strange. I had to keep changing it. (he also looked mad, which isn't the expression he's wearing in the lineart...) To be honest I wasn't sure how I was going to color this picture, but felt the need to color it anyways. I rarely start coloring figures without a plan. After I had colored them I tweaked around with photoshop and found a way to make them GLOW. XD But that caused me to keep changing the shadows on Vincent's face and kept going back to playing with the color levels on photoshop. Squee I love photoshop. I learn something new everytime I'm on it.

The background is actually a photograph of an icy landscape (can't remember) I found online. But I changed it by adding a layer of two colors and tweaked with it on photoshop some more to have it result in that. (it was rather pale/dull before). I wanted something bleak to match the outside world that Vincent escapes to.

Well, I finished this pic rather quickly. (unlike the other three pieces I'm still working on photoshop. TT; ) I hope you guys don't mind me finding a new fandom, I've not abandoned the others! Really! (the three pieces are from three different series...and no I won't say)
