Hufflepuff Cass Cain

Miss Cass Cain of Hufflepuff.

A small quiet little soul who hides a strength and power that most people twice her size wish they had. Although scars from a painful past cover her body and soul, she learned not give in and swore to work hard and become a better person. With the help of Barbara Gordon and Bruce Wayne and his sons, Dick and Jason, Cass was able to overcome her painful past and fears and was welcomed with open arms into their family and the House of Hufflepuff.

Her story starts with a determined red head…

Fresh out of Hogwarts, Barbara’s first assignment in the Ministry of Magic leads to an encounter with a quiet runaway girl named Cassandra. In the process of bringing this girl back to civilization, she uncovers a sinister plot against the Ministry. She comes to find that Cass’s father is David Cain, an assassin who trained Bruce Wayne long before he became Head of Slytherin and is key to the plot against the Ministry. This of course catches the attention of the Wayne family, who join to help Babs avert disaster and protect Cass from her dangerous father.

Babs and Bruce discover that Cass had been isolated and trained by Cain to follow in his footsteps. For years, Cain forced her to do wandless magic resulting in heavy scarring of her hands. Unbeknownst to them, when she turned 11 her letter was rejected by Cain and instead she was made to put her wandless abilities to use, resulting in a man’s death. Born with a powerful sense of empathy, the event shocked Cass to the core that she ran away from her father. She wandered through muggle areas for a while and evaded her father and the Ministry of Magic by refusing to do any magic…until the day she met Barbara.

Although ashamed of her past, Cass swears to do right and stop her father from hurting more people. Together Babs, Cass and the Wayne Family are able to bring down David Cain and avert more tragedy.

Young Babs is promoted and finally taken seriously by her department and her father, Jim Gordon, becomes the new Minister of Magic. Scared of revealing her own sins and causing problems for Babs and Jim, who is now a prominent political figure, she turns down their offer of adoption and tries to run away. It is Jason who convinces her to stay. Tho now adopted by Bruce, he understands what it was to have a criminal father and does not judge her. He and Dick convince her to join their family, promising to keep her secret and to not worry about her past ever coming to light, since Bruce is only a Hogwarts professor with a very private life.

To Bruce’s relief, she accepts and he welcomes her into his family. Although, 12 yrs old, Cass is a very small girl and has had very little instruction on most of the subjects taught at Hogwarts. She agrees to start with the first years rather than her age group, which would’ve put her in Jason’s year. After a few months of tutoring at Wayne Manor, she finally gets her first wand and goes to Hogwarts.

To everyone’s (and her immense) surprise, she is sorted into Hufflepuff, who welcome her with open arms and big smiles. As Dick tells her, she is not the evil person she thought she was. Hufflepuff would never have taken her if she did not exhibit any of their pillars: Loyalty, Fair Play, Honesty and Tolerance. Cass pledges her loyalty to the House of Hufflepuff and declares herself their protector from bullies. Though she struggles in certain subjects, her housemates are happy to help her and soon come to respect her when they discover that her wandless magic, fast reflexes and slight seer abilities make her a very powerful witch…and a perfect seeker, much to Dick’s complete delight and Jason’s horror. Together Dick and Cass swear to bring glory to the House of Hufflepuff. She loves her new family, her housemates, quidditch and school, which only becomes sweeter when Babs comes back to Hogwarts as the professor of Transfiguration. After many years of solitude and pain, Cass finally has the love of people and home she always wanted but never thought possible.
