Bat Kids 2011

This shall be moved to my scrapbook...

mwa ha ha ha, finally! I have started and finished a picture in the same day! YAY! But damn, did my hand hurt afterwards...

granted this is just a sketch, but it's more than I planned. I'm quite happy I managed to fit in ALL the bat kids. Helena included!

What gave me the most trouble were the top three. I rotated them twice before they all fit in right! I'm still not happy with the gap between Dick and Steph, but I did want to have her leaning down between Damian and Barbara....so this'll have to do. and besides, somehow I managed to have all the batgirls on one side and all the robins on the other, with Steph (whose been both Robin and Batgirl) in the center. YAY!


Oh DC, PLEASE let me draw a manga version of your characters. It would be so shojo-tastic, you would make a major profit from all the girl readers, Y DO YOU NOT WANT THE OTHER HALF'S MONEY??? Give us this little corner, please? please? please? (geez...Marvel gave their female readers an X-men manga, I'm soo sure we could do better)...

*ahem*

SO, this is the who's who...with their possible manga characterization if I had any say in it!

Starting from top center going clockwise...

Dick Grayson, age: 25, Batman's first sidekick! Circus-raised Dick became Robin I when his acrobat parents were murdered and he sought justice for them. He grew to become DC's popular golden boy. Everyone loves this guy, ladies and men included. He led the Teen Titan, Outsiders and eventually is destined to take Batman's mantle some day...not that he wants it. He's quite happy as Nightwing...still we don't always get what we want...Will he be able to handle the heavy responsibility when it does come? Everyone seems to believe it...but can the ever so chipper Nightwing pull off being the dark intimidating Batman? Only time will tell...

Helena Bertinelli...age:24, aka The Huntress (and Batgirl II) As the rich, beautiful, sophisticated and bored daughter of a murdered Italian family, not many take her seriously at first. But beware to cross her, it won't be her expensive Gucci purse that'll strike you down. This fine young lady holds many dark surprises beneath her couture sleeves.

Cassandra Cain...age 19, aka Batgirl III, is a mysterious small, quiet girl found by Barbara Gordon. She has revealed herself to be an extreme force to be reckoned with. Running away from a dark violent past, sheltered & uneducated Cass struggles to fit in with the Bat family and find her place in this brave new world she has entered. Will she succeed? Or will her past drag her back and consume her?

Stephanie Brown...age 18, aka Batgirl IV. Pretty poor gal was from the wrong side of the tracks who dreamed of a brighter destiny. Working to stop her crook father, she donned the Spoiler costume to bring him down. When Robin gave up his mantle, she picked it up to continue to provide light & hope for Gotham City. Sadly Tragedy struck and she disappeared from the face of the planet for two years. She was recovering from major injuries and took up more training in Africa to become stronger. She has returned to Gotham City in time for the Next Great Battle. The results of which will impact Gotham City's future and hers. As the new Batgirl, she fights crime alongside the Bat family once again, striving to give light and hope to the new Gotham City and to prove herself worthy of a bigger destiny.

Barbara Gordon, age: 26, started out as a highly intelligent spirited brave young girl who took up Batman's symbol and made it her own as the first Batgirl, a beacon of hope and cheer in Gotham City and an inspiration to all girls. A physical disability in later years did not stifle that same spirit and she expanded her horizons and rose to become the widely sought after Oracle, a master of knowledge and communication and leader of the world wide network of heroes known as the Birds of Prey. Girl's come a long way from the rooftops of her city...watch her as she guides the next generation of heroes.

Damian Wayne, age: 8 aka Robin V, is the smart, arrogant, anti-social, assassin-trained son of Batman and Talia al Ghul. Revealed to his father as a grown child, Damian has had little time to bond with his father who is uneasy at the almost grown up but spoiled attitude of his son. Finding himself pursued by his grandfather's league of assassins, Damian seeks his father's help, but must be satisfied with his father's family instead. Rebellious, angry and rejected, the boy becomes a handful for the family, but when the chips are down...perhaps he can let himself trust this pack of strangers after all. In the end, they may be all he's got.

Tim Drake, age 17, is Robin III...gifted with an uncanny intelligence since birth, Tim was able to figure out Batman and Robin's secret identities. He never forgot the night he met Dick Grayson, the night the Graysons were killed. Soon after Batman gained a partner with the same moves as Dick. Years later, this led Tim to reveal what he knew to Dick when Robin II died and Batman began to lose control. But Dick was a grown man with a new name, Nightwing, and would not return to Batman's side as Robin. Geeky weak Tim then took it upon himself to become Robin and bring Batman back to sanity. For years he trained and grew. He gained and lost family and friends, darkening his spirit and making him sharper. But the will to fight never left him and he eventually became Red Robin, working solo to push his limits and to become a better warrior.

Jason Todd, age 19 aka Red Hood (aka Robin II). Orphaned, neglected, and abused, living off the streets, scruffy street rat Jason didn't hope for much in life but the next meal, until he had the bright idea to steal the tires off the Batmobile... In a whirlwind his life changed and he became the adopted son of millionaire Bruce Wayne and Robin II. He managed it well enough, but always felt overshadowed by his "older brother", Dick Grayson. With the discovery of his birth mother, he risks giving it all up for the chance to meet her. Sadly, reality does not prove kind to Jason and he is betrayed in the worst way possible. Believed to be dead for years, Jason comes back with a vengeance as the Red Hood, an antihero who strives to control crime with brutal methods that were taught to him by the league of assassins. Hurt, jealous and angered by what he finds in Gotham City since his "death", Jason struggles to overcome his painful past and find a peaceful place to finally rest his head and call his own. Perhaps, it may be as simple as a quiet surrender to the nest he never should have left...
